Chiropractic Care for Ear & Sinus Infection
Many children and adults suffer from the occasional ear or sinus infection that is often associated with the common cold. The affliction often disappears as the cold symptoms subside. When ear or sinus infections occur repeatedly, the condition is classified as a chronic infection.
Ear infections occur when the lining of the Eustachian tube swells and blocks the tube. Fluid builds up in the ear, creating an ideal breeding ground for bacteria and viruses to grow. Fluid collects and puts pressure on the eardrum, causing pain.
Sinus infection, or sinusitis, is an inflammation of the sinuses and nasal passages. The inflammation can cause a feeling of pressure in the nose, cheeks, eyes, or on either side of the head.
Many chronic ear and sinus infections are caused by a compromised immune system. The human body’s immune system is a complex system that consists of the lymph nodes, lymphoid cells, the spleen, and the thymus. These different organs, tissues, and cells are located throughout the body, and they communicate through the central nervous system. The central nervous system is formed by the brain, the brain stem, spinal cord, and nerve roots. Your brain is protected by your skull, while your brain stem, spinal cord, and nerve roots are encased in and protected by the vertebrae of your spine. If the vertebrae are not aligned properly, the brain stem, spinal cord, or nerve roots can be compressed. This condition is called a subluxation. Your chiropractor can detect and correct this problem.
Chiropractic is the only health discipline that focuses on this critical correlation between the immune system and the nervous system.
