Chiropractic Care for Back Pain
Back pain is one of the most common complaints of people of all ages. Back pain causes many days of lost work and prevents the sufferer from enjoying life to its full extent.
Back pain has numerous causes. We list just a few of them:
· Body trauma from an auto accident, a fall, or a collision
· Herniation of a lumbar disk
· Osteoarthritis
· Spondylolisthesis
· Lumbar spinal stenosis
· Poor posture while sitting or standing
· Pregnancy
When a body suffers trauma during an auto crash or a fall or a sports collision, vertebrae can be damaged or pushed out of their normal alignment. Nerves of the spinal cord and blood vessels are protected by and channeled through the vertebrae of the spinal column. When vertebrae become abnormally positioned, the nerves can be pinched and produce pain in various parts of the body. Pinched blood vessels can cause reduced blood flow that starves the brain and other organs of necessary oxygen.
Even without a sudden occurrence of body trauma, one can force vertebrae to an abnormal position by slumping in a desk chair or slouching on a sofa for long periods of time. This is likely to occur when working at a computer or watching TV or reading for several hours at a time. Repeatedly, and without even realizing it, we slowly force a misalignment of the spine.
Another source of spinal misalignment is improper support of the spine while sleeping. The best mattress is one that firmly supports the entire body in a natural position while lying in bed. Ask your chiropractor for advice about the best mattress and pillow for your particular body.
With knowledge and skill, your chiropractor can adjust your vertebrae to correct spinal misalignments and relieve the pain of pinched nerves and blood vessels.
